While reports of Trojans on Macs coming from software security firms always make me a little suspicious, this seems to be a legitimate threat.
If you want to check to see if your Mac has this Trojan, follow this instructions: (This involves using the Terminal App, which modifies system files. If you’re not familiar with Terminal, follow these steps carefully).
1. Go to the Utilities folder in Applications and open Terminal.
2. Copy and Paste the following text into terminal. I suggest double-checking to make sure it all got copied exactly as it is here.
Much has been made lately of whether or not the iPad is a PC or not and should be counted as such. To me, the answer is obvious (of course it is). And, if the iPad can be counted among that number, then the iPhone surely should be a worthy and accepted candidate as well.
I have a 27” iMac, a Macbook Pro, iPad 2, and an iPhone 4. Out of all of them, the iPhone 4 is my favorite computer. Yup, computer. Each of those devices do things better than the others, but the iPhone 4 offers the most, in my opinion.
When Apple does find any underage workers, here’s what happens; they are sent to school, fees paid and, this is the best bit, get paid the wage they would have been getting had they been working. The families are involved in the process at every step too.
I would genuinely like to know if other companies approach these cases in the same way. If this is par for the course, that’s one thing. But I haven’t seen reports of Foxconn’s other clients caring like this.
As you’ve probably heard, Apple announced the new iPad yesterday. Here’s the lowdown.
New Retina Display - if you’ve used the iPhone 4 or 4S, you know how amazing the screen looks compared to traditional devices. The resolution is 4 times for dense, meaning that the human eye can’t see the individual pixels. Text looks like it was printed onto the screen, and pictures are incredibly vivid. The whole iPad experience, especially reading, will be drastically improved just be this feature.
5 megapixel camera - This is the same camera in the iPhone 4, and it takes HD video. Much improved over the iPad 2.
4G LTE - If it’s supported in your area, you can take advantage of the carrier’s faster 4G. The downside is an hour less of battery life.
New A5X chip - Graphics processing is now quad core, but it appears that other processes will be like the former A5 chip. This will significantly improve gaming.
Same Price - 16 GB starting at $499. Apple is still offering the low end iPad 2 for $399.
Same Battery - With the exception of heavy 4G usage, you still get the amazing 10 hours of battery life.
Should you upgrade?
The Retina Display alone makes this an enticing buy. If you typically play a lot of games, and need access to the 4G speeds, and would like having a decent camera on the iPad, it’s probably a good idea. But, if you don’t even have 4G in your area, and you don’t care about gaming or pictures, then the iPad 2 might suffice.
